Synopsis
An old man approaches a woman who is hanging her laundry and hands her a sapling. That night, the women sadly says farewell to her son who is about to leave for the battlefield and puts her underwear on her son¡¯s breast while he is sleeping. The next day, the woman plants the sapling on a winter plain and puts a scarf around her son¡¯s neck. Her son disappears into the fierce wind and the film fades as the mother begins her endless waiting.

Director Bio : Moon Seung-wook (1968- )

In 1990, he went to study in Poland entering the Film Directing Department at The ¨©od? Film School, the national film school of Poland and directing such short films as Mother, My Friend (Na ui chin ku) (1994), and The Old Airplane (Oraedoen Bihaenggi) (1994). In 1994, Mother was submitted to the short film category of the Academy Awards to represent Poland and also received the Jury Award at the 2nd Seoul International Short Film Festival. He made his debut in feature films with Alien (Ibang-in) in 1998 and made The Butterfly (Nabi), a sci-fi film which was new territory for him.
