Synopsis
In-yeong, a junior in college, is torn between his mother who is a street vendor and the antigovernment movement in his university. Because of his love for his mother, he decides to live his life in accordance with her wishes. But he finds out that his close friend Sang-in sets himself on fire in protest of the government and this makes him return to his companions in the antigovernment movement. The conflict between In-yeong and his mother begins anew and In-yeong becomes wanted by the government for writing an essay in his university paper titled, ¡°A Comparative Study of the Reunification Policies of the Two Koreas.¡± In-yeong¡¯s mother goes to the authorities in order to get her son absolved of his charges and in the process, is used by government agents to help in the arrest of In-yeong¡¯s friend, Gyeong-hui. That causes In-yeong¡¯s mother to become aware of her situation and its relation to her actions and she experiences a gradual internal transformation. In-yeong ends up being arrested and is tortured and threatened, and his mother sincerely asks for his forgiveness. In-yeong¡¯s mother decides to help her son do what he desires.

A story about a university student who is arrested by the government. This is one of the final independent films of the 80s to deal with the student antigovernment movement. (Kang So-won)
