Synopsis

It¡¯s a story about 2 brothers and a sister from the country who are living on the outskirts of Seoul. The brothers work in an iron works factory, and as a waiter at a restaurant and the sister works at a beauty parlor; they are poor but living healthy lives, dreaming of tomorrow. But one day, Yeong-min who works at an iron works factory, has an industrial accident while working the graveyard shift. He must undergo surgery in order to keep his sight, but the owner of the factory denies him any compensation - saying that the accident was his fault - and although he tries to look for help elsewhere, all of those around him callously turn him down. Cheol-ho attempts to steal money to help his brother out but fails, and Yeong-suk cannot easily acquire the money either.

It¡¯s a well-structured film that tries to realistically portray the lives of the bottom tier of society in the city, who are usually from the country. (Kang So-won)

Director Bio : Kim Dong-bin (1958- )
Born in Seoul in 1958, he graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in shipbuilding. He was active as a member of Seoul National University¡¯s Yalrasyeong Film Group and acquired experience in directing working as an assistant to Park Kwang-su and Yi Bong-won who were members of Yalrasyeong before him. He made his directorial debut in 1995 with the film, Mom Has a New Boyfriend (Eomma-ege ae-in-i saenggyeoss-eo-yo) and achieved commercial success directing The Ring Virus (Ring), a remake of the Japanese film of the same name. His short films include Doorsill of Winter (Kyeoului-moontuk), The Sorrow of Extra (extraui-biae), and That Summer.
Seoul Film Group (1982 - 1986)
The collective was founded by members of the Yalrasyeong Film Group at Seoul National University. The collective was founded in an attempt to make films of a higher quality than that of the group, Yeoengsosomoim, with the goal of beginning a new movement in cinema. The group put out such books as For a New Kind of Movie (Hakminsa Publishing Company, 1984), and the Theory of Movement in Film (1984). It made the film Pannoli (Seoyeongjip, 8mm) - the first independently made documentary in Korea - with the participation of Park Kwang-su, Kim Hong-joon, Hwang Gyu-deok, and Moon Won-lip as part of a cultural movement and collaboratively produced other 8mm films
