The Korean Film Archive is dualistically operating the Materials Preservation Vault equipped with constant temperature and humidity facilities. The materials are kept under optimum preservation as categorized by type, and systematic periodic inspections are implemented.

Restoration and/or reproduction of materials / moving image materials are the most positive and effective preservation methods. These are done by properly combining optical and digital restoration that is suitable for the character of the work.

Preservation technology research / Based on various types of materials held and the preservation expertise accumulated, the Korean Film Archive is making its best effort to obtain the highest preservation quality and increase the restoration rate of materials by performing restoration and reproduction of currently obsolete standards such as the Techniscope format, the anaglyph 3D format, etc., and by conducting research on a combination of digital/analogue film restoration, types of damage suffered by materials, and effects of environmental change on the condition of preserved materials.

Support for public technologies / Once the ongoing establishment of the archiving equipment has been stabilized, the Korean Film Archive will gradually provide a variety of support activities for public technologies, including technical support and work execution as proxy for affiliated archives such as film festivals, cinematheques, etc., reproduction support for low-budget indie films, technical direction guidance for external film restoration, formation of an information exchange network for preservation and management technologies among industrial, academic, and research circles, and presentation of information on foreign technologies to Koreans.
¡Ø KOFA will gradually push ahead with the following after the stabilization of the archiving equipment:
- Technical support and restoration and reproduction work as proxy for privately operated archives (international film festivals, provincial cinematheques);
- Materials processing and/or reproduction support for low-budget, indie films and artistic films;
- Guidance of technical directions for restoration of externally-owned, damaged moving image materials;
- Formation of an information exchange network for moving image resources preservation and management technologies among the industrial, academic, and research circles, and presentation of information on foreign technologies to Koreans.
